Culture

Cultural activity is one of the key areas in which faith communities make a significant contribution in the region. Places of worship organise and host art, music, poetry, drama, sport, tourism and education activities. They are central to the architectural diversity and rich heritage of our region and provide resources that enhance our communities.

In response, CRC developed the Treasures Revealed programme.

CRC's Culture Task Group chaired by the Ms Jenny Carpenter, represent churches among regional cultural bodies and champion good practice, innovation and recognition for the Christian churches in the cultural life of the region. This remit encompasses the arts, architecture, theatre, music and heritage with key activities including:

  • inclusion of Belief and Faith communities in the region’s Cultural Strategy
  • identifying partners and sponsors for beacon projects
  • mapping and prioritising key elements of church cultural input in the region.

We has recently been working closely with the Heritage Inspired particularly on a successful training day in September 2009 in York for those involved in church tourism.
