CRC aims

Churches Regional Commission (CRC) for Yorkshire and the Humber has three main aims:
  • to assert the significance of faith in the region;
  • to represent the churches to regional institutions;
  • to enable the churches to act as partners in regeneration.

Core areas of work

CRC’s core areas of work are led by Task Groups made up of key individuals from across the region with a clear remit of work being achieved including reports, events and pilot projects.

You can also find out more about key CRC activities and Task Groups in the main Core Activities web pages,

CRC history

CRC was established by church leaders in 1998. In 2002 CRC successfully received major direct funding from Yorkshire Forward as part of its commitment to develop the third sector in the region. Other significant funding comes from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Countryside Agency and the Assembly. Together with church contributions, direct and indirect funding totals over £2 million over a four year period. Key staff appointments of a Chief Executive and Policy Officer were also made that year to enable delivery on major programmes in five core areas, to make a real mark on regional policy and to be seen as core partners in the region.

Faith in the Region

Churches are a significant force on this region: there are more than 3600 churches in our region; they engage in some 6500 social action projects;
between 50,000 and 70,000 churchgoers are regularly involved in church social action and are twice as likely to volunteer for social projects than the rest of the population; over 150,000 people benefit regularly from church projects.

CRC holds the faith seat on the Yorkshire and Humber regional assembly, the region’s strategic partnership. The CRC receives significant funding from the Yorkshire Forward to equip churches as integral partners in an inclusive and cohesive society. Together with strong links with other regional agencies, CRC contributes to strategic policy development, expresses the mind of the churches and coordinates church contribution to the region. CRC also share best practice and develop a coordinated strategy with partners to impact nationally.
