Effective Christian Presence and Enterprise
What makes Christian engagement in community
transformation effective? How can effective community work be developed?
Download the groundbreaking findings of 2 years
of research with 19 innovative Christian groups in the Yorkshire and Humber
region. The ECPE project, a joint piece of work with Faithworks, has aimed to
identify, learn from, encourage and sustain enterprising forms of Christian
"presence", looking at 19 very diverse "presences" from across the region,
encompassing social enterprises, local churches, Christian charities, community
projects, arts-initiatives, and much more. We have asked:
What are the assets and drivers? What are the barriers? What can be replicated
elsewhere? The report focuses on the new kinds of leadership the church needs;
the importance of volunteers and the need for churches to improve their
practices; the centrality of partnership; the need for more flexible resources;
the question of sustainability; the importance of the highest quality; and the
need for better team approaches.

Angels & Advocates:
church social action in Yorkshire and the Humber
Angels & Advocates,
an A4 72 page colour report, provides a measure of the significance of the
churches in the region and a benchmark for church leaders and partners in
moving forward. Stories from around the region highlight good practice, but
areas of weakness and opportunities for development are also identified.
The report contributes significantly to our understanding of the economic
and social life of the region. Separate Summary and Bible Study packs also
available.
“I think it works
really well – including your attempt to estimate the costs and benefits
involved. This is really useful stuff.” Professor Robin Gill,
University of Kent and Canterbury.
“It is a stunning
piece of work.” Revd Canon Dr Martyn Percy, Director, Lincoln
Theological Institute.

Sowing the Seed: church and rural renaissance in Yorkshire and
the Humber
This report, a sister report
to Angels & Advocates, gives a snapshot of the countryside at a time
of huge change, analyses current policy and sees ways forward for rural communities.
It also celebrates the significance of the rural church and of faith in action,
encourages churches to engage in social action and to promote good practice,
and facilitates strategic developments through partnerships of churches,
public agencies and voluntary organisations. A4 71 page report in full colour
with photographs.
“Whilst the central
role of the rural church is known and understood at regional level, Sowing
the Seed begins to highlight the extent of the need and of the response." Gordon
Kingston, Rural Director, Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber.
“Sowing the Seed
is an excellent report which will be held up to the church as to what is
required and what can be achieved and to regional agencies to determine
overall rural strategy.” Gordon Gatward, Chairman of the Arthur
Rank Centre.
